Metro Challenge - Complete!

So at our May meeting, we finally had the presentation of the Metro Challenge quilts! It's been a long time coming, and while some of them were still in the process of being finished up, it was lovely to finally see them all together.

If you want to know more about the challenge itself, you can read the original blog post here. And with no further ado... the quilts!

Marlise tackled Lucien-L'Allier station. She did a beautiful job of capturing the monumental interior spaces of the station and depicted them using material from men's shirts.

Debby chose Champ-de-Mars station (work in progress).

Joanna chose Du College station (work in progress).

Stephanie chose Georges-Vanier station. It is the least visited station in the Metro system, so she decided it needed a little love.

Fiona chose Beaudry station (work in progress).

Jennifer chose De L'Eglise station... she included the brown blocks in the corner as a little hat tip to Atwater metro which had been her other choice of station for this challenge.

Josee also chose De L'Eglise station, choosing the highly textured concrete interior as her inspiration.

Nicole chose Joliette station, taking inspiration from the stained glass mural at the station and her experience working with stained glass. Take a look at that intricate quilting!

Amanda chose Lasalle station, where again the textured concrete on the platform inspired some striking quilting.

And finally, we had three people choose Peel station, and while all three are immediately recognizable as Peel station, they all produced very different end results:

Maggie

Melanie

Michele

Beautiful work, everyone! We may have a few more presented at the June meeting, which I will add to this post once we get a few photos.

This challenge was a difficult one, as this year we had a lot of other things come up that kept pushing this to the back burner for everyone... so congratulations to everyone who made it all the way through to the end! The finished (or mostly finished) quilts are all beautiful, and hopefully this exercise has helped you look a bit more closely at the public spaces we pass through every day! :)
